Seasonal service

Commercial Landscaping in Durham Region

Grounds care for plazas, gas stations, retail and office properties. One crew keeps it looking right all season, and you deal with one person instead of a call centre.

What's included

Commercial grounds care is a scheduling and liability job as much as a landscaping one. The grass has to be cut without blocking a drive lane, the beds have to look presentable to a customer walking from their car to your door, and none of it can happen at a time that interferes with how the property actually operates. That's the difference between a commercial crew and a residential one with a bigger mower.

Every commercial landscaping program is scoped to the property. Here's what we typically cover:

  • Scheduled lawn cutting, edging and trimming
  • Garden bed maintenance, mulching and weeding
  • Hedge, shrub and small-tree pruning
  • Litter and debris removal, clippings hauled off-site
  • Spring and fall property clean-ups
  • Seasonal colour and planter programs

Season by season

How the season actually runs

The season doesn't run at one speed. Here's how the schedule shifts from April through November, and why.

Scheduled grounds cutting

Lawn areas, boulevards and islands cut, edged and trimmed on a set rotation, worked around your operating hours and delivery windows so we're not running equipment through your busiest period.

Beds, mulch and weeding

Garden beds edged, weeded and topped up, with mulch depth maintained rather than piled. Beds at entrances and along customer walking routes get the attention first — those are the ones people actually see.

Hedges, shrubs and small trees

Pruning kept to sightlines, signage, entrances and pedestrian routes. On a commercial site an overgrown hedge at a driveway exit is a visibility problem before it's an appearance problem.

Litter and debris

Litter walk on every visit, debris removed and clippings hauled off-site. Gas stations, drive-thrus and plaza frontages generate litter continuously and it's what a customer notices first.

Spring and fall clean-ups

The two big transitions — clearing winter sand, salt residue and dead material off beds and turf edges in spring, and taking leaves, debris and spent growth off the property in fall before the snow lands on top of it.

Spring open-up

April

Winter debris, sand and salt residue cleared off turf edges, beds and hard surfaces. Salt-damaged turf along lot edges assessed while there's still time in the season for it to recover.

Full rotation

May to June

Weekly cutting through peak growth, bed maintenance and the first round of hedge and shrub work. Properties look their best in this window and it's the one to be on schedule for.

Hold the standard

July to August

Growth slows but litter, weeds and bed edges don't. The rotation shifts toward detail work — edges, beds, trimming — rather than volume cutting.

Fall clean-up

September to November

Leaf removal in passes rather than one visit, final cuts, beds cut back, and the property put to bed clear so nothing is trapped under the first snow.

Winter handover

November

Site walk before the season changes — snow-storage areas confirmed, curbs and hydrants staked, catch basins noted, and anything that a plow could damage marked before the first storm.

Durham Region considerations

Durham's commercial stock is concentrated along a handful of corridors — Harwood and Kingston Road in Ajax, Dundas and Thickson in Whitby, Harmony and Taunton in Oshawa, King and Liberty in Bowmanville. These are high-frontage, high-traffic sites where the landscaping is the first thing a customer sees and the last thing anyone budgets for. They're also sites where winter salt lands on the same turf strips every year, which is why spring on a Durham commercial property starts with damage assessment rather than a first cut.
